Eventually Fitzgerald became a notorious alcoholic and Zelda developed schizophrenia. Both were jealous of each other\’s professional success and used material from their own lives in their works. For example, in her novel Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald deals with the love affair between a psychiatrist and his patient. Zelda attended an expensive mental hospital, which led the Fitzgeralds into a series of debts. Francis had no choice but to become a screenwriter in Hollywood. Because of his unhealthy lifestyle, he suffered a second heart attack at the age of 44.
